About ICARUS
Icarus drops you onto a terraforming project that failed. You take a contract from orbit, land on the surface, and work against the weather, the wildlife and your own oxygen supply to finish the job before the dropship leaves without you.
Missions are what the game is best known for: timed, self-contained, and over the moment you extract. They are not the whole game. Outposts such as ARCWOOD, ICEHOLM and HOLDFAST are permanent bases you keep returning to, and Open World prospects on Styx and Olympus run with no clock and no extraction at all.
Which of the three your group plays decides what you want from a server. A peer-to-peer session lives inside one player's game and ends when they close it. A dedicated server does not: it stays up, it holds every prospect your group has started, and anyone can pick up where the group left off without waiting for a particular person to be online.
GG Host is on RocketWerkz's list of verified Icarus server providers. Servers run on NVMe storage, updates install themselves on Icarus's weekly release cadence, and our in-house DDoS mitigation is on by default rather than sold as an upgrade.

A Verified Icarus Server Provider
RocketWerkz added GG Host to Icarus's list of verified server providers in the Week Sixty update, and we have hosted Icarus servers ever since.
"Added GGHost to the list of verified server providers."
Verified means the developer put us on that list — not that we are the only host on it. Several providers are. What it does tell you is that the studio has looked at how we run their game.
Can You Host an Icarus Server Yourself?
Yes — RocketWerkz publish an Icarus dedicated server build, and you are free to run it on your own machine. The question worth asking is whether you want to.
Icarus gives you three ways to play a prospect. Single-player runs on your PC, for you alone. Peer-to-peer lets friends join a session you host, but that session lives inside your game client: when you close Icarus, or your connection drops, everyone is out and the world stops. A dedicated server runs on its own, separate from anybody's game. Nobody has to be the host, nobody's PC has to stay on, and the world is there whenever your group is.
Running that build at home means keeping a machine on around the clock, forwarding ports, applying each weekly update by hand, and accepting that your home connection is now the server's connection. Here, the server exists a few minutes after checkout, updates arrive on their own, and it sits on business connectivity in a datacentre.
What you keep is the control: the settings file, join and admin passwords, prospect selection, RCON, and file access through the GG Host control panel. Passwords are a two-minute job (guide).
Prospects, Outposts and Open Worlds — What Your Server Holds
A prospect is Icarus's unit of play: a mission with a timer, an outpost you build up, or an open world with no clock at all. Your server keeps a library of them.
This is the part people get wrong about dedicated servers, so it is worth being precise. Your Icarus service does not host one prospect. It stores as many as you create, listed in the server lobby, and you pick which one to run. One is live at a time; the rest are sitting there waiting. Finish a mission, drop back to the lobby, load your open world instead, come back to the outpost next weekend. Nothing is lost when you switch.
The three kinds behave differently and that is the point of keeping several. Missions are the classic Icarus loop — drop, complete the contract, extract, and the prospect ends. Outposts such as ARCWOOD, ICEHOLM and HOLDFAST are permanent bases you keep returning to. Open World prospects on Styx and Olympus have no timer and no extraction pressure, which is the closest Icarus gets to a persistent survival server, and the reason a lot of groups rent one in the first place.
On a peer-to-peer session all of that lives in one player's save folder. Here it lives on the server, so it belongs to the group rather than to whoever happens to be online.
Bringing a Single-Player Prospect Across
A prospect you started on your own PC can move to your server. Each one is a single .json file in Icarus's local save folder, and copying it into the server's prospects folder is the whole job — it then appears in the lobby alongside everything else, ready to load.
One warning worth repeating, because it comes straight from RocketWerkz: do not rename the file or edit what is inside it. Their documentation is blunt about the consequence — "Changing the File Name, or the json data of your ProspectName.json, will corrupt your saved data. The corrupt data will save into the prospect and become UNRECOVERABLE." Copy it as it is, and it will load as it was.
DDoS Protection, and Why It Is Not a Line Item
Attack traffic is handled by our in-house mitigation, written on XDP and eBPF. That means packets are inspected in the network driver, before the operating system's network stack ever sees them — the cheapest possible place to drop something hostile, and the reason filtering does not cost you frames while it is happening.
It is on by default, on every server, at no extra charge. There is no protected tier to upgrade to, because an unprotected one was never worth selling.
Keeping Up With a Weekly Game
Icarus ships on a weekly cadence and has done for years — RocketWerkz are past Week 248 at the time of writing, with the Scoria deep ore veins update landing on September 3, 2026, Slinker saddles the week before and Tusker breeding the week before that. Few survival games move that fast.
For a server owner that is a standing chore, so we take it: your server picks up each build automatically. Your prospects carry across the update, the same as they do locally.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a private Icarus server?
It is a dedicated Icarus server that only the people you invite can join. You set a join password, and the server runs on its own hardware rather than inside somebody's game client — so it stays up when you log off, and your group's prospects live on it rather than on one player's PC.
Does Icarus have dedicated servers?
Yes. Alongside single-player and peer-to-peer sessions, Icarus supports a dedicated server that runs independently of any player's game. RocketWerkz publish the server build and document it themselves. Renting one here saves you running it.
Can I host an Icarus server on my own PC?
You can — the dedicated server build is public. It means leaving a machine running around the clock, forwarding ports, patching every weekly update by hand, and hosting your friends on your home connection. A rented server removes all four.
Can my server hold more than one prospect?
Yes. Your server keeps a library of prospects and lists them in the lobby. One runs at a time, and you switch between them whenever you like — a mission this week, your open world the next. Switching does not delete anything.
Can I run an Open World prospect on a dedicated server?
Yes. Open World prospects on Styx and Olympus load on a dedicated server the same way missions and outposts do. With no timer and no extraction, they are the closest Icarus gets to a persistent survival world, which is why many groups rent a server specifically for one.
Can I move my single-player prospect to my server?
Yes. Each prospect is a single .json file in Icarus's local save folder; copy it into the server's prospects folder and it appears in the lobby. RocketWerkz warn that renaming the file or editing its contents will corrupt the save permanently, so copy it unchanged.
Does the server stay up when I log off?
Yes, and that is the main difference from hosting a session yourself. A peer-to-peer session ends when the host closes the game. A dedicated server keeps running, so anyone in your group can play whenever they want without waiting for a particular person to be online.
Is GG Host approved by the Icarus developers?
GG Host is on RocketWerkz's list of verified Icarus server providers, added in the Week Sixty update changelog. Several providers are on that list — we are not claiming to be the only one, or the exclusive host.
Can I set a password on my Icarus server?
Yes. Icarus supports a join password, which controls who can enter, and an admin password, which controls who can run admin commands. Both are set from your GG Host control panel, and there is a step-by-step guide in our knowledgebase.
How fast is my Icarus server set up?
Minutes. Servers deploy automatically after checkout, and Icarus's weekly updates install automatically from then on.
Do you offer refunds?
Yes — game servers come with a 48-hour money-back guarantee. If the server isn't what you wanted, open a ticket within 48 hours of your order and we'll refund the payment, minus the payment processor's fees (roughly 3% + £0.20 — the gateway keeps those either way). This covers game servers; dedicated servers are provisioned per order and aren't included. The exact terms are in our Terms of Use, §23.
What uptime can I expect?
Every location is backed by a 99.99% monthly network uptime SLA from our datacenter partner. We quote network uptime rather than a blanket number on purpose: whether the game process stays up also depends on the game itself — a bad patch can crash any server, on any host. The infrastructure underneath it is the part we can honestly put a number on.
