Moved past couch co-op? Your existing RuneScape: Dragonwilds world (bases, terrain, progress and all) can move onto a dedicated server. The procedure is simple, but two details ruin it if you miss them. Here's the safe version.
Step 1: find your local save
On your PC, worlds live at:
%LocalAppData%\RSDragonwilds\Saved\SaveGames
(Paste that into the Explorer address bar.) Each world is one .sav file, and the filename is the world name.
Step 2: upload it to the server
Stop the server first. Then copy the .sav file into the server's Savegames folder: RSDragonwilds/Saved/Savegames/, over SFTP or your panel's file manager. If there's a matching .backup file alongside your save, bring it too.
Step 3: point the server at it
In DedicatedServer.ini, set Default World Name to the save's filename without the .sav extension. Two rules, both critical:
- Do not rename the file. Jagex's own guidance is emphatic about this: the world name and filename belong together.
- Type the name exactly. A typo doesn't produce an error. The server quietly creates a brand-new world with the misspelled name, and it looks like your transfer "didn't work."
Start the server, and your world is live. The server always loads the most recent save in the folder.
The character gotcha
Worlds and characters are stored separately. Characters live in their own local folder and do not travel with the world. Everyone joins the server with a fresh character, while the world itself (buildings, terrain, world progress) carries over completely. Your local character remains intact for local play.
It works in reverse, too
Download the server's .sav into your local SaveGames folder and it appears in your world selection, handy for taking a backup before big patches. With 1.0 landing September 15, 2026, backing up your .sav beforehand is cheap insurance.
