RuneScape: Dragonwilds is one of the few games where the developer publishes an exact server sizing formula. Here's everything a Dragonwilds dedicated server actually needs, and what it doesn't.

RAM: the official formula

Jagex's guidance: 2 GB base + 1 GB per player.

PlayersRAM needed
24 GB
46 GB
6 (maximum)8 GB

The 6-player cap is fixed in the server software by Jagex. Extra slots beyond 6 don't exist, so a Dragonwilds server never needs more than 8 GB. That's why RAM-based pricing suits this game: you pay for your actual crew size.

Network: one UDP port

The game uses UDP 7777 by default, and that's the only port a single server needs (no separate query port). Self-hosters must forward it through every router between the machine and the ISP; it's changeable with the -port= launch parameter, and a second instance on the same machine takes 7778. On a rented server, ports are handled for you.

CPU and storage

Jagex publishes no official CPU spec. In practice, combat with a full lobby is the heaviest load, and fast single-core performance plus SSD storage keep it smooth, which is why GG Host runs game servers on high-frequency CPUs with M.2 NVMe drives as standard.

The maintenance requirements people forget

  • Version matching: server and client versions must match exactly. Every game patch requires a server update, and hotfixes require a server restart to apply. (Managed servers handle this automatically.)
  • Wait after world creation: when creating a new custom world, give it a minute or two for everything to load before saving.
  • OS: 64-bit only; Windows and Linux both officially supported.

Current as of Early Access 0.12.x (August 2026). At 1.0 (September 15, 2026), Dragonwilds leaves Early Access and adds PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 with full crossplay. Dedicated servers are PC-only until then, and Jagex hasn't yet detailed console access to dedicated servers.

Skip the sizing homework: Dragonwilds hosting priced by RAM maps straight onto the official formula: pay for your actual crew size. Setup guide here; playing with a bigger group? See more than 4 players.
