Enshrouded 1.0 Arrives October 15, 2026
The 1.0 release takes Enshrouded out of Early Access on Steam on October 15, 2026, closing out almost three years of Early Access development. Keen Games are revealing what ships with it in stages — improvements to existing systems and a substantial performance push are confirmed so far, with the full changelog to come in October.
A dedicated server is how a group keeps one shared Embervale running around the clock: your bases, Flame Altars and world progress stay live whether the world's creator is online or not.
Your server updates itself. When Keen push a new build — including the 1.0 update — your GG Host server picks it up without you doing anything.

Self-hosting an Enshrouded server means a machine that stays on, a config file edited by hand, and forwarding ports on your router. Renting skips all of that, and the world stays up when your PC does not.
Admins, Friends and Guests: Passwords That Carry Permissions
Enshrouded handles server permissions in an unusual and genuinely useful way: the password a player uses to join decides what they are allowed to do. Give your co-builders the Friend password and they can build and open chests; give a visitor the Guest password and they can explore and fight alongside you without being able to touch your base.
Admins get the full set, including kicking and banning. Groups can also reserve slots, so your regulars always get in even when the server is busy.
One thing worth knowing: a server with no password is open to anyone who finds it in the server list. Set your passwords before you share the address.
Your Existing World Can Move In With You
Enshrouded stores character progression on each player's own machine, not on the server. That makes moving to a rented server unusually painless: you move one world file, and every player keeps their levels, skills and inventory automatically.
Your world file uploads straight through the control panel's file manager. The guide walks through the whole move, including which file is which and how the rollback copies protect you.

How many players can join an Enshrouded server?
Up to 16 — the game's cap for a dedicated server. The slot count is configurable anywhere from 1 to 16, and running fewer slots than the maximum lightens the load on the server.
When does Enshrouded leave Early Access?
October 15, 2026 is the 1.0 date on Steam, announced by Keen Games in June 2026. The game entered Early Access in January 2024.
Can I move my existing Enshrouded world onto a rented server?
Yes, and it is easier than in most survival games: the world is one file you upload through the file manager, and character progression lives on each player's own machine, so everyone keeps their levels and inventory automatically.
How do admin permissions work on an Enshrouded server?
Through role passwords. The server has separate passwords for Admin, Friend and Guest groups, and the one a player enters at join decides their permissions — from full admin (including kick and ban) down to look-but-don't-touch. Groups can also reserve slots for their members.
Is Enshrouded coming to consoles, and will there be crossplay?
Keen Games demoed a PlayStation 5 version at Gamescom 2026, but have not announced a console release date, crossplay, or how console players would interact with dedicated servers. We will update this page when they publish specifics rather than guess at them now.
What difficulty options does a server have?
Four presets: Default, Relaxed (fewer enemies, more resources, aimed at builders), Hard (more and more aggressive enemies) and Survival (Hard plus extra survival mechanics). A fifth option, Custom, opens the full list of individual gameplay settings so you can tune the world precisely.
Do I need to forward ports for an Enshrouded server?
Not on a rented server — we handle the networking. Self-hosting needs the server's query port and Steam's ports open on your router.
What happens to my server world if something goes wrong?
The server keeps ten rolling backup copies of the world, refreshed as it runs, and the save system supports rolling back to an earlier copy. Combined with your own backups through the file manager, a broken world state is almost always recoverable.
How quickly is my server ready?
Minutes. Servers deploy automatically after checkout with Keen's official dedicated server software preinstalled, and game updates install themselves from then on.
